Did you see me on TV?
If not, here’s the link to the segment: http://www.myfoxny.com/story/25860922/live-the-life-you-want
It was a pretty cool experience and my first time being interviewed on TV. My name and credentials were supposed to be displayed while I was speaking on the segment. But some things don’t work out as planned.
Arianna Huffington was interviewed immediately after me and something interesting happened – FOX 5 made a “mistake.” They put my name and credentials underneath her picture. See photo below:
At first I thought, “OH NO!” and then I thought, “mistakes happen!”
Although this mistake didn’t have negative consequences for me, I’m sure FOX 5 and Arianna Huffington didn’t feel too great about this “mistake.”
I’ve come to understand that no person, business, etc., will ever be mistake-less {Tweet-it}. Everyone makes mistakes. We are human beings! And, actually there is a lot of value in making mistakes. We can sometimes learn our best lessons through mistakes. That doesn’t mean we enjoy experiencing slip-ups, but when we are able to transform the “mistake” into a “valuable lesson” we reap the benefits.
No matter how bad you perceive a “mistake” to be, carrying shame and guilt with you wherever you go, will certainly not help you or anyone else. It will simply make matters worse.
Drop the belief that it’s impossible for you to live your life without making “mistakes.” Contemplate something you did in your past that you feel was a “mistake” that keeps you from feeling good now. Write down the event or experience and then take the following actions.
Here are 3 Steps to Handle “Mistakes”:
1. Fess Up: Out your mistake to someone you love. Getting your feelings out helps it carry less weight in your mind. When someone loves you even though you have made a “mistake,” you realize you can still love yourself.
2. Forgive Yourself: You are human. You did the best that you could, based on your level of consciousness in that moment.
3. Find the Lesson: There are a lot of good lessons we learn when making a “mistake.” In times of pain, we learn the most. Write down 5 things you learned.
As you continue along your journey in life, you will make many “mistakes” along the way. It’s really how you handle them that’s going to make all the difference. I used to beat myself up about mistakes I made. Now, I look for the lesson and move on.
Here’s a quote by Arianna Huffington, “We need to accept that we won’t always make the right decision, that we’ll screw up royally sometimes – understanding that failure is not the opposite of success, it’s part of success.”
